Teen charged in injury accident

HUDSON — An 18-year-old Hudson man was charged in relation to a three-vehicle accident near Hudson High School on Harry Howard Avenue Tuesday. Two people were taken to the hospital.

Jeffrey Hamm has been charged with imprudent speed and reckless driving after his van struck a pick-up truck, which in-turn struck another vehicle.

According to police Hamm was coming out of the main exit of the high school and sped up, hitting a pick-up truck driven by 46-year-old Peter Bersani of Rensselaer County. Bersani was turning out of another exit at the school and attempting to head north on Harry Howard Avenue. The collision sent Bersani’s vehicle into the southbound lane, striking a third vehicle driven by a 16-year-old Hudson resident.

Bersani was transported to Albany Medical Center by the Greenport Rescue Squad. Bersani was not listed as a patient there as of Wednesday afternoon.

Hamm was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital. He apparently later left the hospital. Authorities were looking for him afterwards.

Lt. Richard Paolino of the Hudson Police Department said he couldn’t comment on that aspect of the investigation.
