Accused thief arrested for a parole violation

Hudson-Catskill Newspapers

GERMANTOWN — A Germantown woman facing charges for allegedly stealing from a local non-profit was arrested for a violation of probation Sunday.

Maureen Kevan, 46, was arrested at her home by Columbia County Deputy Travis VanAlstyne for allegedly violating the terms of her probation from a July 2006 conviction for fourth-degree grand larceny in Dutchess County.

Kevan has been out on bail since she was arrested on April 14, 2008 by members of the Hudson Police Department and charged with third-degree grand larceny and falsifying business records.

Kevin O’Neill, the program administrator for Housing Resources of Columbia County, said in April that Kevan stole $21,000 from the non-profit in 2006. HRCC assists low- to moderate-income residents of Columbia County with their housing needs.

Kevan was originally arrested on Feb. 2, 2006 and charged with grand larceny for the theft of $4,300 from the Red Hook Parent Teacher Student Association while she was treasurer. Association officials discovered money was missing when they were contacted by the bank about an overdraft in the association account.

Kevan was sentenced by Dutchess County Court Judge Gerald Hayes in September 2006 to five years probation and 250 hours of community service. By the time of the sentencing Kevan had begun to pay back the money that she had stolen.

According to a source Kevan, using the name Leggett, was working for a Greene County public service agency, from which she was let go earlier this year after it had discovered her past conviction and current troubles.

Kevan was sent to the Columbia County Jail Sunday after her arrest for the parole violation and has since bonded out. She is scheduled to appear for a probation violation hearing at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in Columbia County Court.

Her grand larceny case in Columbia County is currently pending.
