Greenville advances to Class B Final Four No. 4 Greenville 1, No. 5 Schuylerville 0, OT By Austin Mort Hudson-Catskill Newspapers GREENVILLE — The fourth-seeded Greenville Lady Spartans booked a spot in the Section II, Class B semifinals with a 1-0 overtime victory over No. 5 Schuylerville Friday at Greenville. Toressa Young scored the game-winner 2:24 into the first OT period when she beat Schuylerville ’keeper Erin Palma from close range. The Lady Spartans weathered the Black Horses’ attack for the remainder of overtime to claim the victory. Greenville was in control for most of regulation, outshooting Schuylerville 29-7. The Horses’ best chances came on counterattacks, but Lady Spartans goalie Rhiannon Jardim came up with a save on each encounter she faced. The biggest stop came at the end of the first OT, when Schuylerville’s Courtney Pierce split between two Greenville defenders to set up a one-on-one opportunity with the Greenville ’keeper. Jardim quickly closed in, sliding to gather the ball just before Pierce could poke it by her. “My goalie didn’t have to make many saves, but she made a nice one at the end of the first overtime,” said Greenville coach Eileen Kiefer. Greenville applied constant pressure, led by Kim Fabian and Toressa Young. The two midfielders were particularly dangerous with the ball at their feet, either challenging Palma with shots or connecting with forwards Taylor Anne Young and Alex VanAuken behind the Black Horses defense. Taylor Anne Young nearly put the Lady Spartans ahead with 16:35 remaining in the first half when she sent a curling shot past Schuylerville’s netminder, only to see the ball rattle the crossbar. Jardim finished with six saves for Greenville while Palma grabbed 15 saves for Schuylerville.
