Lady Titans hold off Spartans 3-2

GREENVILLE — The Taconic Hills Lady Titans held on to defeat Greenville 3-2 in a Patroon Conference girls varsity volleyball showdown Monday at Greenville.

Set scores were 25-20, 23-25, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-22.

With the win the Lady Titans match records with the Lady Spartans as both sit atop the league at 14-3. Greenville travels to Rensselaer as Taconic Hills hosts Coxsackie-Athens today at 5:30 p.m. for the final games of the regular season.

On Monday, Taconic Hills’ Kelsey Campbell had seven service points, six kills, 12 assists and one dig, Chelsea Halsted had 15 service points, seven blocks, 23 kills, four assists, two digs and six aces, Lexi Kutski had three service points, one kill and 10 assists, Kristie Shroder had 18 service points, four kills, one assist and two aces, Laura Davenport had 18 service points, six kills and six assists and Jackie DaVala had 10 service points.

“No lead was safe against Greenville tonight,” said TH coach Alan Eggleston. “We always have very tightly-contested matches with Greenville every time we play them.”

Greenville’s MaKayla Warren was 22-for-23 serving for 15 points with 12 digs, Josh St. Dennis was 19-for-20 serving for 11 points, Tyler Winnie had 17 kills with five digs and Danielle Cattell had 17 digs and seven assists.

“The girls played with a lot of heart. Unfortunately, we dug ourselves in too deep of a deficit and couldn’t get out,” said Greenville coach Justin Bruce.

Hudson 3, Maple Hill 0

HUDSON — Hudson shut out Maple Hill 3-0 in Patroon girls varsity volleyball at Hudson Monday by scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-10.

Lady Bluehawks’ Mackenzie Hunter had 14 service points with five aces and five assists, Jade O’Leary had 13 kills, Lena Alessi had 11 assists, four service points and a kill, Shavonda Cousin had nine kills, seven service points and three aces, Sklyar Pertilla had eight service points with three aces and two kills and Emily Gaylord had nine service points with two aces.

“That was probably our overall best performance from everybody, it was a total team effort — everybody contributed to the win,” Hudson coach Nancy Graziano said.

Hudson (8-9) hosts Chatham — with a sectional berth on the line — today with a 4 p.m. JV start.

“If we win we make sectionals and we would love the support of our community at the game against Chatham,” Graziano said.

Chatham 3, Rensselaer 2

RENSSELAER — The Chatham Lady Panthers narrowly defeated Rensselaer 3-2 in Patroon varsity volleyball action Monday at Rensselaer.

Set scores were 25-11, 23-25, 25-20, 15-25 and 25-17.

Chatham’s Alyssa Mantell had eight service points, four aces, two kills, one block and five assists, Francesca Bona had eight service points, five aces, five kills and seven assists, Megan Pottenburgh had nine service points, eight aces, one kill and eight assists and Sara Foller had nine service points with one kill.

Chatham improves to 13-4 on the season and plays at Hudson today with a 4 p.m. JV start in the final game of the regular season.

PATROON BOYS SOCCER

Chatham 4, Cairo-Durham 3

CHATHAM — Chatham clinched a share of the Patroon Conference title with a 4-3 win over Cairo Durham in varsity boys soccer at Chatham Monday, according to an e-mail from “Chatham Soccer”.

Panthers’ Joey VanAllen had two goals and an assist, Andrew Knight scored one goal with one assist, Tim Novine had a goal and an assist and Marley Carroll added one assist.

For the Mustangs, Freedman scored twice and Hunter Phillips had a goal and an assist.

Chatham goalies Steve Oleynek and Hayden Crellin combined for six saves on eight C-D shots while Cairo’s Cory Gransbury saved 12 of 16 Chatham shots. Chatham had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks .

Ichabod Crane 2, Greenville 1

GREEVILLE — Ichabod Crane edged Greenville 2-1 in Patroon varsity boys soccer at Greenville Monday, according to an e-mail from Spartans coach Victor Zeh.

“Ichabod’s first-half goals by Alex Issler and Kyle Kline were enough to hold off a strong surge in the second half by Greenville,” Zeh wrote.

George Harvey scored for Greenville while Spartans goalie Andrew Clark had five saves. Riders’ Deme Kramarchyk had seven saves.

Maple Hill 3, Hudson 0

HUDSON — Maple Hill’s boys varsity soccer team shut out Hudson 3-0 in Patroon action at Hudson Monday.

Wildcats’ Jamie Schultz scored in the first half then Sean Sepowski and Cory Legge scored in the second to secure the win.

Maple Hill had a 16-15 shots-on-goal advantage while Hill goalie Nick Papas had 15 saves and Pat Daly and Brett Delamater combined for 20 saves for the Bluehawks. Maple Hill had a 6-3 edge on corner kicks.

“I was very proud of the way we played today, we’re looking for more things like that towards the end of the season to build on for a better a season next year,” Hudson coach Joe Nero said. “I was just totally happy with the overall play of my team [Monday].”

Hudson (4-13, 3-12) hosts Greenville today at 4 p.m. for its season finale.

PATROON GIRLS SOCCER

Greenville 3,

Coxsackie-Athens 0

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Lady Spartans blanked Coxsackie-Athens 3-0 Monday at home to take second place in Patroon Conference girls varsity soccer and knock the Lady Indians out of playoff contention.

Greenville’s Michelle Thomas, Alex VanAuken and Toressa Young each had a goal in the win as Taylor Anne Young had all three assists.

Rhiannon Jardim grabbed eight saves for Greenville while Jenna Morse had 14 saves in the net for Coxsackie-Athens.

“We played well today. Coxsackie-Athens came out fired up and gave us a really good game,” said Greenville coach Eileen Kiefer.

With the win the Lady Spartans finish the season with a 13-3 Patroon record. Coxsackie-Athens finishes up 7-9 on the season essentially eliminating them from sectional play. Teams need an 8-8 record to move on to the postseason, Kiefer said. Sectional seeding takes place today.

Catskill 2, Rensselaer 0

CATSKILL — The Catskill Lady Cats blasted Rensselaer at home Monday for a 2-0 victory in Patroon Conference girls soccer action.

Katie Miller scored a goal and Kiana Walters scored a goal and added an assist to give Catskill the win.

Rensselaer had just four shots on goal and one corner kick as Catskill got off 31 shots on goal with seven corner kicks. Catskill’s Meghan Baxter had four saves in the net.

Catskill finishes up regular season play today at home against Coxsackie-Athens at 4 p.m.

JV SOCCER

Ichabod Crane 4, Greenville 0

VALATIE — Ichabod Crane shut out Greenville 4-0 in JV boys soccer action Monday at Greenville. Luis Jacome, Alex Mastrianni and Tyler Jablanski each had one goal on the day. Chris Alarcon had one goal and one assist and both Zach Ooms and Tyler Myers had an assist in the winning effort. Ichabod Crane improves to 11-1-2 on the season as Greenville falls to 6-7-1 to finish off league play.

Catskill 3,

Windham-Ashland-Jewett 2

MAPLECREST — Catskill’s girls JV soccer squad edged Windham-Ashland-Jewett 3-2 in non-league action at CD Lane Park in Maplecrest Monday. Lady Cats’ Shaina Quinn-Furyck scored twice and Tavia Veasey added a goal, while Lady Warriors’ Stephanie Simpfenderfer scored twice. “Our goalie, Nicole Paolino, did an outstanding job as she always does,” Catskill coach Danielle Lanuto said. The Cats host Coxsackie-Athens today at 4 p.m. to wrap up the season.

Hudson 1, Maple Hill 0

HUDSON — Hudson’s boys JV soccer team beat Maple Hill 1-0 Monday at Hudson. Roodley Dorce scored assisted by Ian Hunter. Bluehawks’ Nick Alger had 16 saves in goal. “I’d like to credit the whole team with a great performance and it was a wonderful win to finish off the season,” Hudson coach Ken Hollenbeck said.
