Siena’s Duell highlights ICC basketball camp

VALATIE — Siena College and the University at Albany were represented for the sixth straight year at the 2008 Ichabod Crane Central (ICC) Boosters Basketball Camp held at the Ichabod Crane Middle School, according to an e-mailed release from ICC varsity boys basketball coach Will Ferguson.

Craig Forth, former Albany Patroon, Syracuse University and ex-professional European player was a member of Ferguson’s coaching staff for the second straight year. For Siena College, Saints assistant coach Adam Chaskin and CBA/Vermont/Siena standout Josh Duell took the campers through various Siena basketball workouts.

UAlbany was represented by director of basketball operations Ken Dagostino, who was a member of the 2006 MAAC Champion Iona Gaels. Dagostino is also the brother of Steve Dagostino, a member of the St. Rose Golden Knights who’s now playing basketball in Italy.

Ken Dagostino taught the campers various basketball drills they could practice alone or with another player.

Forth again was assigned the task of developing potential JV and varsity Riders. He spent two hours each day conditioning, drilling and teaching potential players.

Both coaches demonstrated various basketball drills that players could practice on their own to enhance and improve skills.

Forth focused on teaching future ICC hoopsters team concepts and team defense while demonstrating various man-to-man and zone defensive techniques. Forth is currently the Columbia girls JV basketball coach.

“I hate to say this, but this camp exceeded last year’s camp and was an outstanding basketball camp for ICC current and potential basketball players” Ferguson wrote. “We have established a great relationship with Siena and UAlbany and they continue to bring their top players to camp each year.

“Anytime we can get outstanding Division I players and coaches to consistently attend our basketball camp guarantees the camp’s success each year. Again, on behalf of the ICC Booster Club, Ichabod Crane and the Ichabod Crane basketball coaching staff, I would like to thank Craig Forth, Josh Duell and both UAlbany and Siena College coaches for making the 2008 ICC basketball camp one of the best ever.”

The camp wrapped up last Friday with an award ceremonies and the distribution of T-shirts.

2008 ICC Booster Basketball Camp award winners:

MVP: Joe Fey; Biddy MVP: Jimmy Hollister; MIP: Tyler Zeh; Biddy MIP: Matt Landry; Hustle: Tyler Jablanski; Biddy Hustle: Lucas Van Alstyne; Sportsmanship; Zach Ooms; Biddy Sportsmanship: Phillip Proper; Biddy Best Attitude: Phillip Proper, Jim Fey and Taylor Pultz.

“All the basketball camp award winners are well on their way to developing the necessary fundamentals to play basketball at the middle and high school levels,” Ferguson wrote.
