CLERMONT — Two 18-year-old men were arrested following a reported burglary shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday.

Columbia County Deputy Eli Fieser was on patrol on Route 9 south of the intersection with county Route 6 in Clermont when he was summoned by one of the owners of George W. Saulpaugh & Sons about a burglary in progress.

Upon Fieser’s arrival, one man was taken into custody. The second suspect had already fled the scene when Fieser arrived, but was taken into custody without incident a short time later.

The two men, whose names were not released, were both charged with burglary third degree, grand larceny fourth degree, and criminal mischief, fourth degree. They were accused of breaking property and stealing items from within the building. One defendant was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

Both suspects were arraigned in Clermont Town Court by Justice Ronald Banks. They were released on their own recognizance and ordered to return to town court at 7 p.m. Aug. 28.

Assisting Fieser were deputies Travis VanAlstyne, Brian Molinski, Sr. Investigator William Foster and Investigator Paul Graziano.
