Saugerties All-Stars top Hudson


Saugerties 11, Hudson 10

SAUGERTIES — Hudson’s 9-and-10-year-old All-Stars traveled to Saugerties Wednesday and lost 11-10 in six innings to the home team during District 15 action, according to an e-mail from Hudson manager Chip Moon.

Hudson pitchers were Derek DeLamater, Tyler Drahushuk and Ryan Ohlerich, who combined for nine Ks, six walks, two hit batters and seven hits.

Offensively for Hudson, Brian Harring had two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored, Brian Keator had a single, a double and three RBIs, Jordan Bain had two singles, two RBIs and two runs, Cory Cramer had an RBI triple and teammates Drahushuk, Josh Moon, Ohlerich and Jacob O’Leary each had a single.

Hudson travels to Catskill on Saturday at 9 a.m. as Saugerties travels to Glasco at 10 a.m.


AMERICAN LEGION

HUDSON — Hudson American Legion Post 184 participated in the Saratoga Invitational tournament on July 7-13 at the Glens Falls East Field, Moreau State Park and Saratoga East Side Park, according to an e-mail from Hudson coach Gerry Patnode. The team lost its first game and then won three straight to place as one of the higher overall seeds in the 16-team tournament, which included clubs from New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

Post 184 was eliminated in the first game of the final round.

Shrub Oak 9, Hudson 2

In its tournament opener Hudson lost to Shrub Oak 9-2. Hudson had just six hits in the game with Kevin Knack leading the way with two doubles.

On the mound Alex Sardo, Grimes and Anderson combined to give up 10 hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Hudson 5, Salisbury 2

Hudson came back in game two and edged out Salisbury 5-2. Drew Doty had a single and a double and Zach Kraham added two singles in the win.

On the mound, Anderson pitched five innings and Sardo tossed the final two. The duo combined for six hits, two walks and three Ks.

Hudson 9, St. Johnsville 3

In the third game of the tournament, Hudson topped St. Johnsville 9-3 with the help of a grand slam by Kraham, who finished the day with a double and six RBIs. Mike Rose also added two singles.

Justin Brantley, Patnode and Rose combined to give up four hits and four walks while striking out six batters on the mound.

Hudson 6, Colchester 4

Hudson continued its winning streak by edging out Colchester 6-4 in the fourth game.

Doty had a single and a double at the plate, Kevin Knack had two singles, Brian Gauthier had two singles and a double and both Kraham and Mike Rigos added a double in the win.

Rose and Patnode earned the win on the mound giving up seven hits and four walks with two Ks.

Shrub Oak 12, Hudson 4

In the first game of the championship round Hudson faced off with the only team that had previously defeated them in the tourney and fell once again to Shrub Oak 12-4.

Gauthier had a single and a double, Sardo added two singles and Kraham had a single and a double in the loss.

Kraham, Anderson and Patnode combined to give up 13 hits and five walks while fanning 11 batters on the day.

According to Patnode’s e-mail, Hudson “coach John Rigos said that last week’s tournament was a character builder for the team coming from behind in a couple games. Also, the coach said he was very happy with the team spirit and camaraderie displayed both on and off the field during their week-long stay in the Lake George area.”

Hudson hosts the American Legion District tournament at the Greenport Town Park beginning July 26. The winner advances to the New York State Tournament beginning Aug. 6 at Delano-Hitch Stadium in Newburgh.
