Kaz issues temporary layoffs to some workers By Christine D’AgostinoHudson-Catskill Newspapers HUDSON — The Kaz factory located at One Vapor Trail in Hudson has issued temporary layoffs to some of its employees, according to an employee who answered the phone Friday. The employee, who declined to be identified, would not say who many employees the layoffs affected. A call to a human resources manager was not returned. Mary Alane Wiltse, director of Workforce New York’s Hudson office, explained that a temporary layoff is one where the employee has an estimated return to work date. Wiltse also said that no new claims have come in from any Kaz employees, and that such claims might not come in for a couple of weeks. “It’s usually a longer period of time,” she said, citing the example that school bus drivers experience temporary layoffs during the summer. A person can collect unemployment during this time. If the worker doesn’t plan on returning to the job, he or she must actively seek new employment in order to collect. Kaz manufactures a number of products, including air purifiers, humidifiers, fans and heaters. Its products are distributed under several brands, including Vicks, Honeywell and Braun.
